The Truth

Beat like Rodney King,
Assassinated like Fred Hampton
Chocked to death like Eric Garner
Prosecuted daily like Angela Davis
Left for dead like Emmett Till
Centuries later and William Lynch still prevails
Imprisoned like Nelson Mandela
Never really free like Solomon Northup
And yet they still want to keep hate promoting statuses up?
Always having to look back like Harriet Tubman
No place to call our own, robbed of land like in Pierce City, Missouri
Tired of fighting just to survive like Mark Matthews
Making us cry out against injustice like Nina Simone
Blinded by the truth like Ben Carson
Unwilling to stand for anything like David Richmond, Franklin McCain, Ezell Blair Jr., and Joseph McNeil.
Not afraid anymore like Dick Gregory
Our history is everyone's history
Our plight is everyone's plight
We didn't stop then
Why would we stop now?

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. ~John 13:34~

Trapped

Enclosed in a world foreign
Wanting more so badly
Trapped
Defeat won't defeat me
But I'm losing grip
Slipping away into a life
Is it meant to be
Is what I don't want to be meant for me
Crying doesn't help
Lashing out pushes them away…..faster
Don't go
I want you to stay
Please
Please
Oh Lord, please
Help me find my way
Live my truth
Beneath this skin
Under this soul
Beyond this heart
In the depth of this passion
I'm trying so hard to break through
I'm trying so hard
To get out of this foreign world
Blessed will be thy day
When a hand has reached my way
Right when my grips lost
Like suspense in that one movie
Saved at the last moment

I'm waiting

Who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began~2 Timothy 1:9
